I hope you all enjoyed your summer.  Hard to believe we’re into September already. 

Our next meeting will be held Tuesday September 17, 2013 from 1130am to 100pm at the PNC Arena. 

Our guest speaker for the meeting will be Donnie Varnell.  Donnie is the Special Agent In-Charge for the NC SBI Diversion and Environmental Crimes Unit (DECU) where he develops policy, conducts and supervises investigations dealing with prescription narcotics and environmental violations. He has been with the SBI since 1991 and has held his present position since 2011. 

Donnie received his BS in Criminal Justice from Texas State University in 1985. Prior to joining the SBI he served as a Field Artillery Officer in the US Army, and worked for the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office and Wilson Police Department.  Donnie has also coached youth soccer for 15 years to include a state high school championship in the women’s 2A division.

The presentation will discuss the scope of the prescription drug abuse & diversion problem. It will also contain some examples that may affect retail businesses and other facilities. He will include some steps and programs that are being used to combat this growing and deadly issue.
